My high school years (grade 8-11) were spent at Malcolm Campbell High School (Ville St.Laurent - a borough of Montreal) from 1966 to 1970. Not a lot of memories stand out, but there were some highlights;
my first girl friend in grade 9 - God, she was gorgeous!
made the basketball and soccer teams in grade 8 and 9.
a Montreal Alouettes linesman the size of a house became the basketball coach;
made the team run suicides (my first time - I promptly threw up)
got kicked off the team because I threw a punch at an opposing player who had thrown a punch at one of my teammates.
most of my classes were mainly in the "enriched" category (boy did I fool them ...) which ultimately meant one would end up with kooky teachers (teach history in French with her own version of history) or teachers who would let people do the work almost entirely on their own ... I had fun with that ...
I missed my history matriculation exam (province wide exams in either grade 10 or 11 which ultimately determined the graduation status). History was always one of my favourite and best subjects and I had wanted to get into McGill CEGEP but they refused as I was missing that mark. I did write a make-up in the summer and did well.
Wow! That's the ongoing nightmare of many students, even after graduating. OMG - I missed an exam! or OMG - I need one more course in order to graduate!!
You're absolutely right ... that nightmare has been with me forever! But I also consider the ultimate benefits ... I never would have attended Vanier if I had done the exam on time ... There is a god!
